Bandau, 28 May 2025 — The Banana Crisp Production Course organised by Sabah Women's Affairs Department (JHEWA) was successfully held over three days from 26 to 28 May 2025 in N.6 Bandau. The programme specifically targeted women, particularly vulnerable women and single mothers, to help them acquire new skills and increase household incomes.
Twenty-six local women participated enthusiastically. They learned techniques for producing quality banana crisps, including ingredient selection, drying and product marketing. Practical activities gave them hands-on experience under local food industry experts.
JHEWA expressed pride in the programme's success. 'We are pleased to see these women's enthusiasm and courage in learning skills that can improve their families' economic circumstances. We hope this course will also open new business opportunities,' it said.
The course also strengthened participants' networks and cooperation, allowing them to share experiences and ideas for marketing banana crisps more widely. JHEWA hopes the initiative will provide lasting benefits, particularly by strengthening the community's economy.
On completing the course, participants are expected to be able to produce competitive, high-quality banana crisps and improve their families' standard of living.
