Moving Together for Equality
Date: 14 August 2025
Location: Wisma Wanita Ballroom, Sabah
The GENDERasi Harmoni Gender Sensitivity Programme, an initiative based on gender equality, was successfully held at the Wisma Wanita Ballroom. The event, themed 'Moving Together for Equality', was organised by the Sabah Women's Department and attracted community members, local leaders, and representatives from government agencies and NGOs.
The programme was officially opened by the Honourable Datuk Flovia Ng. She highlighted its achievements in strengthening public understanding of women's rights, equal gender participation in all fields, and practical steps to close gender gaps. She also emphasised the importance of collaboration across sectors to sustain the programme.
Main activities included experience-sharing panel sessions and an exhibition of products by JHEWA entrepreneurs. Four speakers presented practical strategies for improving access to education, employment opportunities and women's participation at every level of decision-making.
The organisers reported an exceptional response from participants representing grassroots leaders, government agencies, NGOs and educational institutions. They highlighted positive changes at community level, particularly greater awareness of the important roles of women and men and ways to recognise equal rights regardless of background.
Key outcomes included greater awareness of the welfare of all groups in society, inter-agency cooperation on equality initiatives, and a continuing commitment to expand the programme through regular training and community campaigns.
Media attendance also increased publicity, helping the message of gender equality reach more people across Sabah and surrounding areas.
The GENDERasi Harmoni Gender Sensitivity Programme achieved its main objective: empowering communities through education, collaboration and practical action to strengthen gender equality. It is hoped that the initiative will inspire similar efforts in the future.
