Sugut, 24 July 2025 — The three-day Seafood Processing Course, held from 22 to 24 July 2025 at Kampung Terusan Sugut Hall, achieved its aim of empowering vulnerable women and women from B40 households in the area.

The course organised by Sabah Women's Affairs Department (JHEWA) attracted 30 women from the local community who have the potential to increase their income by producing quality seafood products.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Puan Alijah Bte Ismail, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Programme and Development Sector), Ministry of Community Development and People's Wellbeing, representing the Honourable Datuk James Ratib, Minister of Community Development and People's Wellbeing. She expressed appreciation for the programme's achievements.

In her speech, she emphasised the importance of training and economic empowerment for communities, particularly women, who are often the backbone of their families. 'This course allows participants to learn professional seafood processing techniques and opens additional income opportunities that can improve their standard of living,' she said.

Throughout the course, participants learned hygienic and safe seafood processing techniques and effective product marketing. The programme is expected to have a positive impact and strengthen the local economy.

JHEWA hopes that such initiatives will continue and reach more women in the future, supporting a more inclusive and competitive society.
